Arizona Announces 2022 Staff
TUCSON, AZ - Arizona Coach Matt Blamey has announced a number of moves to the coaching staff, elevating previous volunteer assistant Jimmy Maguire to Strength & Conditioning Coach and the hiring of Nick Lewis to take the reigns as offensive coordinator. Coach Shane Carroll will continue to lead the Wildcat defense and Coach Hank Bolon will assume the role of volunteer assistant, as responsibilities at his full-time job have substantially increased demands on his time.
"I am very excited about the upcoming 2022 season. Not only do we have a tremendous amount of talented student-athletes ready to take the field, but I feel like we have the coaches in place that will enable us to maximize our potential," Blamey explained. "The wealth of experience that each coach brings to the table is uncommon. We can't wait to get to work!"
Coach Lewis comes to Arizona to lead the offense after spending the last 6 years as a high school head coach in Colorado. In that time, he has turned around two struggling programs, including taking the Ralston Valley Mustangs from being ranked 36th to 12th among Colorado 5A Lacrosse programs in just 3 seasons.
He has been coaching since 2001 and has experience at 4 different high schools throughout the country: Chenango Forks in NY, WT Woodson in VA, and Prairie View and Ralston Valley in CO. As an offensive coordinator at WT Woodson, Coach Lewis won 4 straight Liberty District titles, and one Northern Region championship.
Prior to becoming Head Coach at Prairie View HS in 2016, Coach Lewis served as an Offensive Coordinator, Defensive Coordinator, and JV Head Coach. In 2017, Coach Lewis led Prairie View to their first winning season in program history, and the Colorado High School Coaches Association voted to honor the team with the Ken Ranta Sportsmanship Award--as the team that most exemplifies outstanding sportsmanship.
Coach Lewis played at Whitney Point High School where he won back-to-back conference championships and was named First Team All-Conference midfielder. Coach Lewis played college lacrosse at Broome Community College and SUNY Oneonta where he graduated with a BS in Psychology.
Coach Lewis is a certified mediation and yoga teacher, a trainer for the Positive Coaching Alliance (PCA) and a Team 360 Sales Pro for Lacrosse Fanatic.
On the defensive side of the ball, Coach Maguire will have an increased role this year after spending the 2021 season serving as volunteer assistant working with the Wildcat goalies. Maguire took charge of Arizona's strength and conditioning program over the summer and will continue to do so in addition to working with the goalies and defense.
Coach Maguire played high school lacrosse for highly competitive Poway High School in San Diego, CA. During his career Maguire helped Poway capture both county and state championships.
After graduating Coach Maguire continued his career playing collegiality at Sacred Heart University (Fairfield, CT) and Chapman University in Orange County, CA where he was a perennial WCLL All-Star goaltender.
Prior to Arizona, Coach Maguire served as defensive assistant at Serra High School and has coached with notable programs such as Peak Performance Goalie School and East Meets West.
